Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are a tried and true staple of an easy lunch, but they can get boring after a while. Here are some adventurous ideas for revigorating your PB&Js.

Grill It!

We gave you five toppings for your whole wheat toast, but left out the old fashioned PB&J for creative purposes. It is simple, but somehow toasting your bread makes a bland PB&J taste so much better.

Go Savory

The beauty of a PB&J is that it combines savory peanut butter with sweet jelly, and you can push it to either extreme. For breakfast, put bacon, maple syrup, blueberry jam, and peanut butter between two slices of french toast. Get really crazy by putting an egg on top. My mouth waters just thinking about it. Spice up your peanut butter with jalapeño peppers, bacon, and cherry jam. Go East with coconut shrimp, sriracha, curry, basil, and orange marmalade. Experiment with recipes switching out peanut butter for almond, hazelnut, or walnut butter.

Go Sweet

Take your sandwich to the sweet side by adding cream cheese, bananas, and strawberry jam to your peanut butter. Another breakfast favorite combines peanut butter with granola, bananas, honey, and apple butter on cinnamon raisin bread.  Try fresh pomegranates, or replace the jelly with Nutella and add bacon. Make it into a S'more by adding chocolate and melted marshmallow. Regardless of where you decide to take your next peanut butter and jelly adventure, the right bread makes all the difference.
